​What Stefan did next stunned the entire ICU into breathless silence He didn't rush to his parents-in-law He didn't shout He didn't even look at them

​He walked directly to the alarm panel near Mira's bedside and with one hard precise movement he slammed his fist onto the Emergency Call button The sound was deafening echoing through the silent unit Red lights began flashing violently

​He then turned slowly His eyes two pools of frigid fury landed on Terrence and Janelle

​"You just tried to murder my daughter" Stefan's voice was barely a whisper but it cut through the blaring alarms

​Stefan took one long menacing step toward her "You physically assaulted an unconscious child in a critical care unit You attempted to cut off her oxygen supply to force a financial transaction"

​He didn't need to finish The ICU doors burst open Security guards doctors and police officers who had responded to the Level 1 Emergency swarmed the area The police immediately recognized the gravity of the situation a clear case of assault in a medical setting

​Stefan pointed a steady hand at Janelle and Terrence "Arrest them both for Attempted Murder and Assault" he commanded The authority in his voice was absolute Stefan was not just a father he was a renowned Chief Prosecutor for the city's Major Crimes Unit his identity known to every officer present

​Terrence finally found his voice "Stefan you can't We're family"

​Stefan watched coldly as the police handcuffed his father-in-law "You forfeited the right to family the moment you prioritized a party bill over my daughter's breath" he stated "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit assault and endangerment"

​Janelle began screaming trying to fight the officers "Fiona tell them It was an accident"

​Fiona who had been rooted to the spot shaking finally spoke She walked up to the officer who was securing Janelle and handed him the hospital's CCTV consent form that showed the mask being yanked off

​"I am the witness and the mother" Fiona stated her voice now clear and cold "Charge her fully"

​The rest of the family arrived for the "birthday bill" money only to find Terrence and Janelle being led away in handcuffs Their screams of shock and disbelief were the final shattering of the toxic control they had exerted for decades Mira's life was saved but her grandparents' freedom and relationship with their daughter and son-in-law were gone forever
